We AreInnovative

Keele Innovation District

Already a key site for high value employment, the Keele Innovation District represents a significant expansion of the current footprint at Keele, taking the University’s innovation facilities into a new era.

Keele University contributes around half a billion pounds to the West Midlands economy each year, with around two-thirds of that benefitting the immediate region of Staffordshire.

Keele’s award-winning 60-acre Science and Innovation Park is a key employment site in the region, generating £75m GVA and housing over 1,500 employees across more than a dozen facilities.

Among the existing 60 industry-leading, knowledge-intensive organisations based at Keele are Marriott, Michelin, Caudwell Children, Biocomposites, and Charles River Laboratories, and the Park is expected to reach full capacity by the end of 2025.

The opportunity

The Keele Innovation District is a regional investment partnership that will see the Science and Innovation Park increase its footprint by 330%, and deliver global innovation that is grown in Staffordshire - a powerful contribution to the UK’s renewed focus on driving productivity. The District will provide almost 1,000,000 ft2 of specialist workspace, lab space and R&D facilities, open-innovation hub, indoor and outdoor social and meeting spaces, walkable routes and onsite hotel, building on a strong cohort and pipeline of global and locally-grown companies working in digital technologies, advanced materials, life sciences and energy and environment.

The benefits

Located in Keele, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Staffordshire - in terms of jobs alone, the District will provide 5,400 on-site jobs, 5,300 construction jobs and 12,000 total gross jobs including multipliers. It will appeal primarily to businesses in the Advanced Digital, Health and Life Sciences, Energy and Environment and Materials Innovation sectors.
