Details

The regeneration of an important town centre site, sitting between the High Street and the River Trent Washlands, this project will see a variety of new uses for the town; an upmarket hotel, a wildlife visitor and education centre; a brewing heritage and social history experience; food and drink and more.

Work is already underway on this project and recently completed enhancements on the Washlands itself include new river boardwalks, a major play area and swathes of woodland and wildflowers. A planning application for the main site was submitted at the beginning of the year and groundworks are due to commence on parts of the project in the autumn, with more taking place in 2026.

There is significant interest from hospitality operators as well as key partnerships with the National Brewery Heritage Trust and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, ensuring a collaborative approach to the regeneration of Burton’s town centre. Anchored by £23.8m of Towns Fund investment and a bid to the National Heritage Lottery Fund, there remain opportunities for investment, partnerships and private sector involvement in the delivery of this project.
